Ace batter Ajinkya Rahane has completed 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League history. The Maharashtra-born achieved the milestone and entered the elite list during the Match 57 of IPL 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Rahane, who is also captaining KKR in the ongoing edition of the marquee tournament.
In the process, he became the third-oldest player to reach the landmark at 36 years and 335 days. The record for oldest to reach 5000 runs in IPL stands with CSK captain MS Dhoni, who did so at 41 years and 270 days old. AB de Villiers, on the other hand, completed 5000 runs in the league at 37 years and 69 days of age. The youngest in the list currently is RCB’s Virat Kohli, and had reached the accolade at just 30 years and 143 days, spending all his years with the same franchise.
Rahane, who started his IPL stint with Mumbai Indians, has played for multiple franchises like Rising Pune Super Giant, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Capitals. He also has a couple of hundreds in his IPL career, both of which came for the Rajasthan-based franchise. The experienced batter’s first IPL season came in 2012 where he made 560 runs at an average of 40.00 with one century and three half-centuries in the season.
Speaking of his form in the current league, Rahane has been having a stellar run as the No. 3 batter for the defending champions, despite his captaincy being a bit here and there. In 11 innings so far, the Ashwi-KD-born has aggregated 375 runs at an average of 37.50, which also includes a triplet of fifties for the Kolkata-based franchise. He is also the highest run-getter for his side. As KKR’s qualification chances hang by a thread, Rahane would look to lead by example in the remaining league stage fixture and take the team to top four for the business end of the tournament.
