The IPL 2025 clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was abandoned due to rain, delivering a massive blow to both teamsā playoff hopes, especially SRH, who are now officially eliminated from the tournament. But for DC, while the path ahead is tough, their playoff chances are still alive.
DCās Rollercoaster Season So Far
DC began the season in terrific form, winning their first four matches and quickly rising to the top with 10 points from six games. However, their form took a sharp dip in the middle phase of the tournament, with the team losing three of their last four matches.
With todayās no-result, DC now have 13 points from 11 matches. Though a win today could have eased their path, they can still reach a maximum of 19 points by winning all of their remaining games. That tally would guarantee them a place in the playoffs.
What Does DC Need to Qualify?
Historically, 16 points have been the benchmark for playoff qualification. However, due to a tight points table this season, even that may not be enough. DC must win at least two of their final three matches to stay in strong contention. A clean sweep would ensure qualification, but anything less than two wins would likely knock them out.
However, the challenge for DC is that all of their remaining opponents are currently in the top four: May 8: vs Punjab Kings (PBKS), who are riding high under Shreyas Iyerās captaincy. May 11: vs Gujarat Titans (GT), who defeated DC by seven wickets in their previous meeting. May 14: vs Mumbai Indians (MI), another top side who also beat DC earlier this season by 12 runs.
