Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 4 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the New International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh.

Iyer pleaded guilty to the offence, and no formal hearing was required, following which the match referee Prakash Bhatt sanctioned the charge, while the on-field umpires Abhijit Bhattacharya and Akshay Totre levelled the same.

“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 12 lakh,” the IPL stated via an official media release on Wednesday.

After the match, Iyer shared his raw thoughts on the win while crediting the youngster Cooper Connolly, who helped the Punjab-based franchise largely in them getting over the line. The star batter also provided an update on his wrist injury after he had copped a blow while standing at the non-striker’s end.

“All I can say about the hand is that it’s nice, same as it was before, I don’t want to jinx anything … Some of the shots he (Cooper Connolly) played was surreal to watch, especially the one off Rashid … I was focused on my hand inside, icing it, suddenly we lost two wickets back to back, these things happen in the IPL, you have to stay composed, Cooper was there, he was composed and calm,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation.

“After the third over we realised the wicket is slow, Arshdeep came and said it was holding a bit, we tried to make the ball old as soon as possible. Vyshak is carrying forward the form he performed in the last season, he is a big match player … I was surprised to see a short leg for me, I told Shubman I had never seen that before, it’s good to see captains attacking,” he added.
