A CPL fixture at Providence Stadium between the Amazon Warriors and the Knight Riders produced one of the most talked-about moments of the tournament when fast bowler Shamar Joseph and veteran Kieron Pollard became involved in a heated mid-game exchange that had the crowd buzzing.

Pollard appeared to block Joseph at some point during the innings, and the pacer responded with visible fury. Joseph gestured clearly in Pollard’s direction with a ‘shut it’ signal, but Pollard kept chirping. Walking back to his mark, Joseph turned around and delivered a ‘keep blabbering’ gesture in Pollard’s direction.

The very next ball brought immediate reward. Da Silva top-edged a delivery into the outfield, and Veerasammy Permaul pulled off a stunning one-handed leaping catch at full stretch on the boundary ropes. Joseph’s celebration was electric, and the verbal battle between the two players was far from finished.

How did Pollard’s dismissal add to the drama?

The Knight Riders were in serious difficulty at 115 for seven when Pollard arrived at the crease to face Dwayne Pretorius in the 19th over. He launched into a full toss with a massive swing but failed to connect cleanly enough. Shimron Hetmyer held a safe catch in the deep, and Pollard departed for 10.

That score left Pollard stranded on exactly 14,999 T20 runs, one short of becoming the first man ever to reach 15,000 in men’s T20 cricket. Joseph was ecstatic. He sprinted directly toward Pollard, or into his path, and celebrated right in his face.

How did Amazon Warriors seal their 100th CPL win?

The Knight Riders were eventually dismissed for 126 for eight. Justin Greaves top-scored with 35, and Colin Munro contributed 26, but Bangladesh spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismantled the middle order, claiming four wickets for 23 runs in four overs. It was Miraz’s second appearance as a replacement for Mohammad Nabi, and his second commanding display, leaving him with seven wickets for just 36 runs across both matches.

The Warriors lost Glenn Phillips and Mavendra Dindyal inside the first seven overs of their chase, but Shai Hope steadied the innings with an unbeaten 42. Hope and Hetmyer shared a decisive 51-run partnership before the Warriors reached their target in 18.4 overs.

Pollard kept chirping. While going back to the run-up, Joseph turned back and made the ‘keep blabbering’ gesture towards Pollard. In the very next delivery, Joseph struck as Joshua da Silva top-edged into the outfield, and Veerasammy Permaul pulled off a stunning leaping catch, one-handed at full stretch, on the boundary ropes. The celebration that followed was electric, and the chatter between the two players clearly wasn’t finished.

With Knight Riders deep in trouble at 115 for seven, Pollard faced Dwayne Pretorius in the 19th over. He went for the full toss with a massive swing, but didn’t connect cleanly enough. Shimron Hetmyer at deep took a safe catch, and Pollard was gone for 10, leaving him stranded on exactly 14,999 T20 runs; one run short of becoming the first man ever to reach 15,000 in men’s T20 cricket.

The result was the Warriors’ eighth win from nine matches and their 100th victory in CPL history.
