Serena Williams’ coach Rennae Stubbs recently hit back at a critic after the latter made a demeaning remark about women’s tennis. Amid the US Open, which featured several late-night finishes, Stubbs called for changes to the rules and format.
The opening night at the 2026 US Open concluded at 2:01 am, followed by a 12:26 am finish on Night 2, a 1:55 am finish on Night 3, an 11:15 pm finish on Night 4, a 2:15 am finish on Night 5, and a 2:07 am finish on Night 6. Taking this into consideration, Stubbs suggested that if a match reached the fifth set, instead of playing the whole set, the players should be asked to play a 10-point tiebreak. The first player to reach 10 points will win the clash, making the matches shorter and avoiding the late-night finishes.
