Scotland prop Belisle retires from internationals

Christine Belisle says playing for Scotland has been her proudest honour after she retired from international rugby.

The Canadian-born prop, 32, made her Scotland debut in 2019 – originally as a lock and back-rower – and was capped 42 times by her adopted country, scoring one try.

Belilse was part of the Scotland squad that won WXV2 in 2023 and played in all three matches at the 2021 World Cup.

After being left out of an extended training squad before the 2025 tournament, Belisle appeared to announce her international retirement on social media, but was a dramatic late call-up to start the quarter-final against England following injuries to Elliann Clarke and Lisa Cockburn.

Scotland were beaten 40-8 at Ashton Gate by the eventual winners in Belisle’s final cap.

“Playing for Scotland has truly been the honour of my lifetime,” Belisle said. “Though the curtain has closed on my international career, I carry all of it with me: the pride, the pain, the joy, the love.

“To the fans, you guys are the best. Thanks for showing up and showing out. You have made the last six years some of the coolest of my life.

“I look forward to moving into this new chapter with trust in the universe if what’s to come and a firm belief in ‘what’s for you will not pass you’.”
