Rohit Sharma had to leave the field while he was batting in Mumbai Indians’ clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday, April 12, at the Wankhede Stadium. The former India captain experienced problems with his hamstring. He was batting on 19 off 13 balls, as Mumbai Indians were chasing a 241-run target.

According to Cricbuzz, Rohit will undergo scans to understand the severity of his hamstring injury. The experienced batter’s availability for Mumbai Indians’ next match, against Punjab Kings on Thursday (April 16) will depend on how the reports of the scans look.

Rohit called the physio to have a check on him before the start of the final over of the power play. After receiving some treatment, the five-time IPL winning-captain resumed batting. However, after running a single and defending one delivery in that over, Rohit decided to walk off, with Suryakumar Yadav replacing him in the middle.

“I’m not entirely sure yet – perhaps it’s a bit of a hamstring issue – but I can’t say for certain. I was in the dugout, so I don’t have much information on it,” teammate Sherfane Rutherford said in the post-match media conference.

Virat is fine, says Krunal

Incidentally, Virat Kohli, Rohit’s long-time friend and India teammate, was also struggling with his fitness in Sunday’s blockbuster clash. He scored 50 off 38 balls while batting first. However, he wasn’t on the field. Later, it was learnt that he had sustained an ankle injury. Krunal Pandya, however, said that the injury isn’t too serious.

“I mean, I have not spoken to the physio yet, but I think he’ll be fine. He has been striking at around 200 if you look at the last two or three games. At the end of the day, what matters is how we are playing as a unit. If we are able to put up 230-240, we will take that any day. If you look at his stats, he has been batting at a very good strike rate,” Pandya said after the match.
