Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday, bringing the curtains down on a rollercoaster career in the red-ball format. In 2021, Rohit became the 35th test captain of India as he took over following Virat Kohli’s resignation. His first assignment was a two-match series against Sri Lanka. He led India to the World Test Championship final in the 2021/23 cycle, but the team lost to Australia in the title clash.

Here’s a statistical breakdown of ’s Test career:

Rohit Sharma’s Test career spanned over 12 years after he made his debut in 2013 against West Indies scoring 177, second second-highest score by an Indian debutant. Despite playing for 12 years, Rohit played only 67 test matches having a topsy-turvy career. Starting off as a middle order batter, Rohit had an inconsistent run in the first half of his career, i.e. 2013-2019. His red-ball career changed in 2019 when he was promoted as an opener against South Africa, eventually becoming the captain in 2021.

67: Rohit Sharma played 67 games across his career. He played 20 matches before he was promoted as opener and played a majority of his next 47 matches at the top of the order (barring a couple of Tests in Australia).

4,301: Rohit Sharma scored 4,301 runs in his career with an average of 40.57. He was more successful batting as an opener with 2,697 runs in 66 innings.

91: Rohit Sharma holds the record for the joint-most sixes scored by an Indian in test cricket. He scored 91 sixes in his career tied with but Rohit scored it in just 67 games as compared to 104 games of Sehwag.

212: It is the highest score of Rohit Sharma and the only double century he would score in his Test career. Laced with 28 fours and 6 sixes, Rohit scored 212 in 255 balls against South Africa in 2019. India won the test by an innings and 202 runs.
