Former Rohit Sharma has begun preparations for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 while representing the Mumbai Indians. The tournament is scheduled to begin on March 28 and to run until May 31.
The former Mumbai Indians captain was seen training at the iconic Shivaji Park on Saturday, March 7. During the practice session, Rohit attracted a large number of spectators who gathered around the ground to watch him bat. Fans cheered loudly as the veteran opener played several impressive strokes during his nets session.
Rohit was seen confidently executing a variety of shots, including flicks, pulls, cover drives, and solid front-foot defensive strokes. Every time he struck a powerful shot, the spectators around the ground responded with loud cheers and encouragement, creating an energetic atmosphere during the practice session.

BCCI to adjust schedule for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma
Rohit remains one of the most successful captains in IPL history. Under his leadership, Mumbai Indians won five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020, making the franchise one of the most dominant teams in the competition’s history.
However, Mumbai Indians have struggled to replicate that success in the last few seasons. The team has not been at its best over the past five years and will be aiming for a stronger performance in the upcoming season as they look to return to their winning ways.
Earlier, Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as the captain of the franchise. Hardik, who made his IPL debut in 2013 with Mumbai Indians, played 92 matches for the franchise before moving to the Gujarat Titans. He led Gujarat Titans in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, guiding the team to the IPL title in their debut campaign and finishing as runners-up the following year.
Overall, Rohit has enjoyed an impressive IPL career, scoring 7046 runs in 272 matches. His record includes two centuries and 47 half-centuries, with an average of 29.73 and a strike rate of 132.09.
