Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq summoned by Pakistan's cyber crime agency over phone data

Pakistan’s cybercrime authority has issued formal summons to wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and opener Imam-ul-Haq as part of an inquiry into phone data collected during the team’s Test tour of England. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has also summoned a third cricketer, whose identity has not been made public. The development was reported on September 10, 2026.

The NCCIA functions under the Federal Ministry of Interior. That ministry is currently headed by Mohsin Naqvi, who simultaneously holds the position of PCB chairman, a dual role that adds a notable institutional dimension to the investigation.

The sequence of events leading to the summons began after the Lord’s Test. PCB security officers seized the mobile phones of both Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq following that match, and data extracted from those devices was subsequently handed over to the relevant authorities.

What happened to Pakistan’s squad during the England series?

Pakistan’s three-match Test series against England ended in a 2-0 defeat, with the second loss coming at Lord’s. The tour was disrupted by a combination of poor form and off-field concerns that prompted immediate action from the board and team management.

Imam sustained a calf injury on the opening day of the second Test while fielding and was unable to bat in the match. Rizwan contributed only eight runs across his two innings in that same game. Both players were sent home before the series concluded, and five additional squad members were also withdrawn. The coaching staff did not survive the fallout either, with head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul both dismissed in the aftermath of the tour.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board has initiated an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports concerning discipline and conduct, which are currently being reviewed internally,” Amir Mir, the PCB’s Director Media & Digital Communications, said in a statement on social media.

The PCB confirmed it had launched an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports about conduct and discipline issues that emerged during the England trip.

What is the PCB’s official position on the inquiry?

The board has acknowledged the situation without disclosing specific details about the allegations or the findings of its internal review. Amir Mir, PCB Director Media and Digital Communications, outlined the board’s stance in a formal statement.

“The PCB handles such matters in accordance with its standard procedures. The process is being conducted under PCB regulations, ensuring that all concerned individuals are given due consideration… The PCB will not comment further at this time. The Board advises stakeholders and the public to rely on official PCB communications,” Mir added.

Several key details remain unconfirmed at this stage, including the identity of the third cricketer summoned by the NCCIA, the precise nature of the phone data under review, the timeline for the agency’s inquiry, and whether any formal charges will follow from the PCB’s internal process.
