The next T20 league in India following the IPL is the Mumbai Premier League (MPL 2025), which was set to be hosted by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) from May 26 to June 5. The auction for the league took place on May 7, where the squads of all eight teams were decided.
This is the third season of the tournament, with all the games scheduled to be played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It will feature some of the best players from Mumbai, including the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Ajinkya Rahane.
However, as per Odishatv, it seems that the tournament might be suspended due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, similar to the IPL, which is currently suspended for one week after 58 games by the BCCI for the safety of the players and fans, as well as due to restrictions on travel routes.
This is bad news for the young Mumbai players as well, who had an opportunity to prove themselves in the tournament, which would have featured some big international and domestic stars. Some young talents such as Atharva Ankolekar, Ayush Mhatre, Musheer Khan, and Sairaj Patil were among the top buys in the recently concluded auction of the local T20 league.

The eight teams of the T20 Mumbai League are Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, Bandra Blasters, SoBo Mumbai Falcons, North Mumbai Panthers, ARCS Andheri, Eagle Thane Strikers, Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs, and Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, all of which have picked their icon players who have represented India in international cricket.
