The saga of more arrests and more sackings in the aftermath of the tragic events that unfolded near the Chinnaswamy Stadium continued on Friday (June 6). The police conducted a raid at the house of Rajesh Menon, Head and Vice President of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. But Menon is said to be absconding.

The police are also pursuing K.T. Majeed, Director and Chief Financial Officer of DNA Event Management Firm, alongside Karnataka State Cricket Association  Secretary A. Shankar and Treasurer Jayaram. As of now, all the aforesaid names are absconding.

K Govindaraj, Karnataka CM’s secretary, also had to face the wrath as he was shown the exit door from his position by the state government. It could be because of inconsistencies in Govindaraj’s statements to various outlets. “The appointment of K Govindaraj as Political Secretary to the Chief Minister is hereby revoked with immediate effect. Accordingly, K Govindaraj is hereby relieved from the post of Political Secretary to the Chief Minister with immediate effect,” an official notification noted.

Meanwhile, Hemant Nimbalkar, the state intelligence department head, has been transferred. This is in addition to suspensions of high-ranking police officials, along with the arrests of  Nikhil Sosale, RCB’s Head of Marketing and Revenue, Kiran Kumar, Senior Event Manager, DNA networks, and Sunil Mathew, Vice President, Business Affairs, DNA Networks.

On his part, Siddaramiah, the Chief Minister, defended the spate of sackings and suspensions. “They are doing this for politics. I don’t do politics. We have taken action against those who were found visibly responsible,” as quoted by ANI.

A social activist apparently also approached the Cubbon Park police stadium to register an FIR against  RCB’s batting mainstay, Virat Kohli. In a nutshell, a slew of actions have been taken by the state government.

Compensations too have been offered to the bereaved families by the RCB franchise and state government. But where does the buck stop? And all those compensations wouldn’t magically bring life back to those who died in the stampede during the victory celebrations of RCB. Incidentally, all those who passed away in the stampede were under the age of 40.
