
What was meant to be a day of celebration turned into heartbreakānot just for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans, but for the entire nation. A day after the team secured their maiden IPL title, tragedy struck during the victory parade in Bengaluru. Thousands of fans had gathered near Vidhana Soudha to celebrate and catch a glimpse of their heroes. The festivities began after the players met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, followed by an open-top bus parade to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
However, the crowd soon became uncontrollable, and the excitement turned to chaos. A stampede broke out, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and injuries to several others. This tragic event has cast a dark shadow over what should have been a historic and joyous occasion for the franchise and the city.
RCB Announces Rs 10 Lakh Aid Per Victimās Family and Launches āRCB Caresā Fund
In response, RCB announced financial assistance for the victims while expressing deep sorrow over the incident.
āThe unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a great deal of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced financial support of ā¹10 lakh for each of the eleven families of the deceased. Additionally, a fund called āRCB Caresā is being set up to support fans injured in this tragic incident. Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything we do. We stand united in grief.ā
Earlier, RCB released an official statement on the tragedy:
āWe are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings across Bengaluru in anticipation of the teamās arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us.
āRCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extends heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our programme and followed the guidance and advice of the local administration. We urge all our supporters to please stay safe.ā
