Royal Challengers Bengaluru have received conditional clearance to host Indian Premier League matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, following discussions with the Karnataka government. The development follows a meeting involving officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), RCB representatives, and Home Minister G. Parameshwara. Although the permission is not yet final, the state government has indicated a positive stance, with a decision expected after further consultations later this week.

Cricketing activities at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium have remained suspended since June last year following a tragic stampede during RCB’s IPL title celebration, which resulted in the death of 11 people and left several others injured. The incident raised serious concerns over crowd management, security measures, and civic coordination, leading the authorities to stop major events at the venue. With the IPL approaching and Bengaluru being a crucial host, KSCA and RCB have been actively engaging with the state government to regain permission under stricter conditions.

KSCA President and former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad confirmed that the association facilitated the meeting between RCB officials and the Karnataka government to discuss hosting IPL fixtures at the iconic venue. Speaking to reporters, Prasad said the Home Minister was supportive and assured that the matter would be reviewed promptly.

“We have been facilitating this meeting between RCB and the government. KSCA, from our side, we wanted to meet the government and all the officials, and we have done that. They have been very supportive, and they have guided us to make sure that we have these matches here. Today we brought the RCB representatives, and we had a very good meeting with the Home Minister. We are extremely thankful to Parameshwar ji. And he promised us that he will have another meeting with the committee that he set up on the 12th to make sure that they give the decision to host the matches as soon as possible, because BCCI also needs to draw up the plan in terms of the venues, centres, publishing, and announcing the venue. Since RCB won the game last year in 2025, obviously, the inaugural ceremony has to happen here in Chinnaswamy Stadium. For that, we need the government’s permission, which the Home Minister has promised that he will make everything convenient after the meeting with the committee, the inaugural ceremony and all RCB matches,” the KSCA president said.

On Wednesday, we will take a call: G Parameshwara

Prasad also stated the logistical urgency, noting that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) needs clarity on venues to plan schedules, publish fixtures, and finalise arrangements. He further stated that since RCB won the IPL in 2025, the inaugural ceremony is expected to take place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, subject to government approval. Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed that conditional permission has already been granted, but stressed that a final call will be taken after detailed discussions.

“The IPL matches are approaching. KSCA President Venkatesh Prasad, spokesperson Vinay and RCB representatives met me. They asked me for permission, and we have given conditional permission. But they are saying this has to be discussed, so I gave them time until Wednesday. We are calling the BBMP commissioner, the Police commissioner, and the Law representatives. So on Wednesday, we will take a call. Discuss all pros and cons,” the Karnataka Home Minister said.
