President of the Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has toured the Kurt E.S. Okraku Technical Centre at Winkogo as part of his ongoing tour of the Upper East Region, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening football infrastructure and grassroots development in the area.

The GFA President inspected the current state of the facility in the company of the Chairman of the Upper East Regional Football Association, Salifu Zida and members of his Executive Committee. The visit offered the President the opportunity to assess progress made since the commissioning of the first phase of the project.

Since its completion, the Kurt E.S. Okraku Technical Centre has become a vital hub for football development in the region, serving as the training base for the GFA Elite Academy team hosted at Bolgatanga Senior High School.

The facility has also hosted several competitions and programmes organised by the Upper East Regional Football Association, underscoring its growing importance to football activities in the region.

President Simeon-Okraku expressed satisfaction with the condition of the facility, noting that it remains in good shape and is fulfilling its intended purpose. He also received briefings on plans for the second phase of the project, which is expected to significantly enhance the centre’s capacity and functionality.

The next phase of development is projected to include the construction of the head office of the Upper East Regional Football Association, modern dressing rooms, spectator stands, capable of hosting all categories of matches, including elite domestic competitions.

When completed, the expanded facility will continue to serve the people of Winkogo and surrounding communities, playing a critical role in addressing the long-standing sports infrastructure deficit in the Upper East Region.

The project represents a major step toward creating sustainable pathways for talent development, improving access to quality playing surfaces, and positioning the region as a key contributor to Ghana’s football ecosystem.
