Premier League Preview: Heart of Lions seek revival against title-chasing Medeama as Vision host Nations FC
SHARE

Heart of Lions will be eager to halt their recent downturn in form when they host high-flying Medeama SC at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Saturday, December 27, 2025, in what promises to be a compelling Premier League encounter.

Despite remaining firmly in the race for a top-four finish,  Lions’ ambitions have suffered a setback following a poorly timed five-game winless run (D2, L3). Their most recent outing ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat away to FC Samartex 1996, a result that saw the Kpando-based side drop to seventh place on the league table with 23 points.

Nonetheless, the Lions continue to boast one of the most formidable attacking units in the division. They have netted 17 goals — the joint second-highest tally in the league — while conceding just 11 goals across 15 matches, underlining their balance at both ends of the pitch.

Importantly, home form remains a major source of encouragement for Head Coach Bashir Hayford’s side. Losses at the Kpando Sports Stadium have been rare, with only league leaders Aduana FC managing to secure victory there in the Lions’ last seven home fixtures (W5, D1). During that run, Heart of Lions have kept an impressive six clean sheets, scored eight goals, and conceded only one, ranking them as the seventh-best home performers in the league.

They will also draw confidence from their recent head-to-head record, having remained unbeaten in their last two home league meetings against Medeama SC (W1, D1). On Saturday, the Kpando lads will be determined to leverage that advantage and finally bring an end to their winless streak.

Medeama SC travel to Kpando with momentum firmly on their side. The Mauve and Yellow narrowly missed the chance to move top of the table last weekend after scoring a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw against ten-man Basake Holy Stars FC at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium. That result extended their impressive unbeaten league run to 11 matches (W5, D6) — the longest active streak in the Premier League.

Currently second on the table with 27 points, Medeama sit just one point behind leaders Aduana FC, with a game in hand. Their outstanding match-week 14 fixture against defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars FC has been rescheduled for Wednesday, December 31, 2025, offering them a clear pathway to the summit.

The 2022/23 league champions have been the most potent attacking force this season, scoring a league-high 20 goals while conceding just 10 in 14 matches. Away from home, they rank as the third-best performers, recording two wins, three draws, and one defeat in six outings, scoring seven goals and conceding five.

Head Coach Ibrahim Tanko will be keen for his side to maintain their unbeaten run, though history suggests Kpando remains a challenging destination for Medeama, where victories have been hard to come by.

Head-to-Head

Heart of Lions are unbeaten in their last two home league meetings against Medeama SC since the 2023/24 season (W1, D1).

Vision FC vs Nations FC

Struggling Vision FC will be desperate to arrest a worrying dip in form when they host mid-table Nations FC at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

The Tema-based side enjoyed a promising start to the campaign and were comfortably positioned in the league’s top half following a 2-1 victory over bottom-placed Eleven Wonders on match-week nine in early November. However, fortunes have since taken a dramatic turn.

Vision FC are now enduring a seven-game winless run (D4, L3), a sequence that has dragged them down to 16th place and into the relegation zone with 15 points, just two points adrift of safety. While results have faltered, one consistent positive has been their resilience at home.

Crucially, none of their three defeats during this slump have come on home soil. Vision FC remain one of the league’s strongest home sides this season, unbeaten in seven home matches (W3, D4), keeping five clean sheets, scoring nine goals, and conceding just three. Their dominance at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex stretches even further, as they are unbeaten in their last 18 home league games (W11, D7).

That formidable home record will be put to the test as they seek to rediscover winning ways and breathe fresh life into their survival push.

Standing in their way are Nations FC, who make the long journey to Tema buoyed by a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Young Apostles at Abrankese last weekend. That win marked their fifth of the season and lifted them to 10th place on the table with 19 points, having scored 13 goals and conceded 14 in 15 matches.

Nations FC have shown signs of improvement, winning three of their last five league games (L2). However, away form continues to be a significant concern. The Abrankese-based side are yet to record an away win this season, currently holding the worst away record in the league.

Their only point on the road came in a goalless draw at Bechem United on match-week eight. In seven away fixtures, Nations FC have lost six, scored just two goals, conceded nine, and failed to find the net in five of those matches.

Head Coach Frimpong Manso will be hoping his side can finally improve that dismal away return when they travel to Tema — a venue where they previously secured a goalless draw in their only prior visit.

Head-to-Head

Vision FC and Nations FC have met once at this venue in the league since Vision FC’s promotion in 2024, with that encounter ending in a 0-0 draw.
