Premier League: Medeama tighten title grip as Kotoko, Aduana and Berekum Chelsea shine

Medeama SC continued their relentless march toward the Premier League title with a commanding 3–1 victory over Karela United at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa, extending their lead at the summit to eight points.

Right-back Kamaradini Mamudu stole the headlines with a superb brace, while Derrick Fordjour also found the net as Ibrahim Tanko’s side stretched their unbeaten run to an outstanding 17 matches.

With 43 points from 20 games, the Mauve and Yellow are firmly in control of the title race, leaving Aduana FC and Asante Kotoko trailing on 35 points each.

Asante Kotoko bounced back from a three-game winless run in emphatic fashion, cruising to a dominant victory over struggling Basake Holy Stars at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Samba O’Neil opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Albert Amoah marked his return to the club with a sensational overhead kick. Kwame Opoku capped the performance with a stunning bicycle kick as Kotoko climbed to third place and kept faint title hopes alive.

Aduana Stars also enjoyed a productive weekend, responding to their previous setback with a convincing 2–0 away win over Swedru All Blacks at the Swedru Stadium on Sunday.

Benjamin Tsivanyo struck in both halves to secure the points and keep the Fire Boys in fourth place, eight points adrift of leaders Medeama. The defeat ended All Blacks’ unbeaten home run and extended their winless streak to three matches.

In Hohoe, Hohoe United and Vision FC shared the spoils in an entertaining 2–2 draw that did little to ease either side’s relegation worries. Sena Ati and substitute Lawson Bekui were on target for the hosts, while Sam-An Mohammed and Emmanuel Sanja scored for Vision, who came close to a valuable away win before late drama denied them.

Dreams FC were held to a 1–1 draw by Young Apostles at the Tuba Astroturf. Kumah Kofi’s second-half strike gave Dreams the lead, but Richmond Coka’s quick response earned the visitors a hard-fought point.

The result extended Dreams’ unbeaten run to four matches, while Young Apostles remain rooted in the relegation zone.

FC Samartex 1996 maintained their strong home form with a comfortable 2–0 victory over Nations FC in Samreboi. A Christian Agyenim Boateng penalty and a clinical finish from Kwaku Owusu secured the points.

Bechem United returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Heart of Lions at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Stadium on Sunday, January 25, 2026, extending their impressive home form in the Premier League.

Augustine Okrah proved decisive once again, striking just four minutes into the contest to register his seventh league goal of the season.

Heart of Lions, who had snapped an eight-game winless run in their previous outing, were unable to build momentum. While their recent form has dipped, Bashiru Hayford’s side remain seventh on the table with 27 points, largely due to a strong start to the season. They will be eager to respond when they host Asante Kotoko in their next fixture.

Bechem United, meanwhile, will aim to sustain their resurgence when they travel to Accra to face Hearts of Oak in their upcoming match.
