Premier League: Medeama edge Dreams FC with late drama to go top
SHARE

Medeama SC climbed to the topĀ of the Premier League after securing a dramatic 2-1 victory over Dreams FC at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa on Friday evening.

A hero-turned-villain moment from Christian Owusu, who scored an own goal deep into stoppage time, handed the Mauve and Yellow all three points and extended their impressive home record.

Medeama began brightly and took a deserved lead in the 19th minute when Abdul Salam finished off a flowing team move to crown a dominant spell of possession. However, the visitors gradually found their rhythm and drew level just before halftime, with Christian Owusu turning home from close range in the 45th minute.

Dreams FC, who are still searching for their first win of the season, defended resolutely in the second half and looked set to claim a valuable away point. But their resistance was broken deep into stoppage time, Christian Owusu scored an unfortunate own goal, sealing a hard-fought victory for the home side.

The defeat leaves Dreams FC winless in five matches (L4, D1), piling pressure on Coach Winfred Dormon as his side struggle to find consistency. Medeama, on the other hand, continue their impressive home form and move top of the table with the victory.

The defending champions will next face FC Samartex 1996 in a Western Derby, while Dreams FC will host Nations FC as they search for their first win of the campaign.
