Premier League: Heart of Lions stay perfect as Medeama slip, Vision secure first win
SHARE

Heart of Lions extended their flawless start to the season to climb to the top of the table, while Medeama dropped to fourth following an away defeat. FC Samartex 1996 remain winless after three matches, and Vision FC celebrated their first victory of the campaign on an action-packed Premier League matchday 3 across five venues on Sunday, September 28.

Here is a complete wrap of matchday 3 of the Ghanaian top-flight.

Heart of Lions 1–0 Bechem United

Heart of Lions maintained their perfect start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign with a narrow but deserved 1-0 victory over Bechem United at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Michael Ephson’s decisive strike in the 59th minute proved the difference, sending Bashir Hayford’s men to the summit of the table with a maximum nine points from three matches. The Lions have now established a two-point cushion at the top and look early contenders after a commanding opening to the season.

Karela United 1–0 Medeama SC

Karela United climbed to second place after edging Medeama 1-0 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

Felix Mortu netted the winner in the 79th minute, punishing Medeama despite their dominance in possession and chances.

The Pride and Passion remain unbeaten and continue to defy expectations following last season’s relegation scare. Medeama, suffering their first defeat of the campaign, slipped to fourth and will look to rebound when they host Nations FC next.

Vision FC 2–0 Hohoe United

Vision FC earned their first win of the season with a comfortable 2-0 triumph over top-flight newcomers Hohoe United at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema.

After a heavy defeat at Medeama last week, Vision struck twice in quick succession—Nana Kusi Asante converting a 54th-minute penalty before Emmanuel Sanja added a second two minutes later.

The result lifts the Tema-based club to seventh, while Hohoe United remain in search of their first Premier League win.

Nations FC 0–0 FC Samartex 1996

Nations FC were frustrated in Kumasi, held to a goalless draw by a resilient FC Samartex side at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.

Despite dominating possession and registering 12 shots, Nations could not breach Samartex’s disciplined defence.

The visitors have now drawn all three of their opening matches, while Nations continue to seek greater cutting edge in attack.

Young Apostles 1–0 Dreams FC (Match Suspended)

At the Wenchi Sports Stadium, Young Apostles led Dreams FC 1-0 before heavy rain forced an abandonment.

Richmond Opoku opened the scoring in the 30th minute amid a downpour, giving the hosts the advantage.

The remaining 45 minutes will be completed on Monday, September 29. Both sides are chasing their first victory of the season, with the Apostles holding the upper hand going into the resumed fixture.
