Accra Lions climbed out of the relegation zone — at least temporarily — after securing an impressive 2-0 victory over Bechem United in matchday 29 of the Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Second-half goals from Jacob Awoute and Bernard Kesse sealed an important three points for the Lions, keeping their survival hopes alive in the Ghanaian top-flight.

The home side started brightly, creating several early opportunities. Salman Faris and Lucky Nwafor both came close.

After the restart, the Lions wasted little time asserting themselves. Moments after missing a similar opportunity, Jacob Awoute opened the scoring, calmly finishing a cross from Edmund Amakye.

Bechem United thought they had clawed a goal back when Abban headed home from a freekick, but the assistant referee flagged for offside, much to the relief of the home team.

Accra Lions expertly managed the closing stages, maintaining their two-goal cushion and securing a much-needed victory at home.

The result provides a crucial boost in their battle against relegation, while Bechem United will be left to rue missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Medeama SC returned to winning ways in impressive fashion, sweeping aside Young Apostles with a commanding 3-0 victory in a lively Premier League clash at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on Saturday night.

A brace from right-back Kamaradini Mamudu and a header from captain Fatawu Sulemana secured a comfortable win for the Mauve and Yellow, who dominated proceedings from start to finish.

Kamaradini opened the scoring with a thunderous strike into the top corner, setting the tone for an exciting night. He then added his second shortly after, calmly slotting home from inside the box to hand Medeama a two-goal advantage.

Captain Fatawu Sulemana capped off a perfect first half for the hosts, diving to head home Medeama’s third goal and effectively sealing the result before the break.

Medeama enjoyed the majority of possession and dictated the tempo throughout, putting the Premier League newcomers under constant pressure in front of a vibrant home crowd.

The victory lifts Ibrahim Tanko’s side to fifth place on the league table with 44 points from 29 matches, while Young Apostles drop to 13th, facing a challenging end to the season.

Medeama will look to build on this dominant performance as they continue their push for a strong finish to the campaign.
