One of the reasons for Mumbai Indians’ (MI) loss in Qualifier 2 was that their go-to bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, was handled extremely well by Punjab Kings (PBKS). Bumrah’s impact was nullified by the PBKS batters.

Josh Inglis started Bumrah’s day with a beautiful flick for four. One ball later, Inglis went one step further and hit a six off Bumrah over long-on. On the fifth ball of the same over, Inglis clipped the ball and beat square leg for another boundary.

On the last ball of the over, Bumrah placed the tallest fielder in the team, Reece Topley, at third man to take a catch—but Inglis went over Topley and cleared the third-man boundary for another six. The first over from MI’s main bowler yielded 20 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah finished IPL 2025 with 18 wickets in 12 games

Bumrah was brought back when Nehal Wadhera and Shreyas Iyer were in the middle of a fantastic partnership, in hopes of giving MI a breakthrough. However, PBKS executed a brilliant strategy: not to give him a wicket and to safely see through his over. Bumrah conceded just seven runs in that spell.

MI captain Hardik Pandya brought Bumrah back again with the same intention—to break the partnership—but PBKS stuck to their tactics and again saw through his over. Though they scored only five runs, they didn’t lose any wickets.

Bumrah returned for one final time in the 18th over. On the second ball, which was almost a perfect yorker, Shreyas Iyer dug it out for a four. PBKS didn’t take any unnecessary risks against him. Bumrah finished with figures of 4-0-40-0, at an economy rate of 10.00.
