Wahab Riaz, the former Pakistan pacer who currently serves as head coach and mentor for the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team, has found himself at the centre of heavy online trolling after a video from a women’s cricket training session went viral on social media around September 27, 2026.
The video shows four women cricketers holding each other’s legs and hands awkwardly while their teammates cheer them on. The clip spread rapidly across platforms, with many users directing their criticism squarely at Wahab Riaz for the unusual nature of the drill.
“The Strange Training of Pakistani Women’s Team Players! Brothers, ever since we saw Wahab Riaz and Aamer Yameen with the Pakistani women’s team, they’ve been appearing to practice in new styles every day. And check out the image below to see how they’re practicing! Is this even a way to practice? What’s your opinion—be sure to tell us in the comments,” a user wrote on X.

In his current role, Wahab Riaz is responsible for guiding the training and tournament strategies of the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team, making him the natural focal point of public scrutiny whenever the team’s preparation methods attract attention.
Is Wahab Riaz actually connected to the video?
While the trolling was directed at Wahab Riaz, a fact-check post circulating on social media raised serious questions about whether the video was even from the senior women’s team that he oversees. The post pointed out a clear distinction between the senior squad and the Under-19 setup, urging users to verify basic facts before concluding.
The fact-check post stated:
“This is Pakistan U19 women’s team. Wahab Riaz and Umaid Asif are not part of its team management, both are with the senior team. First learn about the teams and their support staff before spreading propaganda.”
According to this claim, the video is from a Pakistan Under-19 Women’s Cricket Team training session, not the senior team. If accurate, this would mean Wahab Riaz had no direct involvement with the drill shown in the viral clip.
What is Wahab Riaz’s background in Pakistan cricket administration?
Wahab Riaz has held several prominent roles in Pakistan cricket beyond his playing career. He served as Chief Selector of the Pakistan national cricket team from November 17, 2023, to July 10, 2024, before moving into his current position with the women’s setup.
Sahibzada Farhan unfazed by squad inexperience
His appointment as head coach and mentor for the Pakistan Women‘s Cricket Team placed him in charge of shaping training methods and strategic planning for the side. The viral episode highlights how quickly unverified social media content can generate backlash against a named official, even when the facts surrounding the video remain disputed.
The identity of the person who originally shared the video and the specific names of the four cricketers shown in the clip have not been confirmed.
