Kim Lars Björkegren has reiterated that the dream is to go as far as possible in Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and is optimistic about the Black Queens’ chances against the “Les Elephants” as the team gears up for a friendly clash in Abidjan on Friday, May 30.

Ahead of the game, the coach has shared a few words on the importance of the games and the Africa dreams with GFA Communications.

Read on for the transcript.

On the importance of the trial matches

In preparation for WAFCON, we’re getting closer, and now the results are starting to matter more to us than before. These trial games will be crucial for us to create more chances and score a few more goals.

On the outcome of the pending game

I’m looking forward to the team’s performance. It’s still a friendly game, so the result isn’t that important. What’s most important is that we see ourselves creating more chances than we have before and moving in the right direction. Given that we just arrived and only had one hour of training at the stadium, we can’t expect miracles. However, we’ll push each other on the pitch for a favorable result. We really want to win the game, even with limited preparation. I think this will be a close game.

On the strength of the “Les Elephants

I watched the previous game of our opponent, and I’m sure it’s going to be tough. I think we’ll be playing against a team that’s well-organized, physical, and strong. It’ll be a mix, I believe, between Morocco, which we played against in my first game, and Senegal, which we played against previously. Something in between is what I expect – a team that can do a bit of both. I think it’ll be a tough game, and I’m being completely honest about that.

On the Women Africa Cup of Nations dream

Our goal is to go as far as possible in WAFCON. This is a step for us. Sometimes the step goes in the right direction, and sometimes it doesn’t. But we need to keep moving and getting better every single day. That’s more important than the results today.

Ghana will take on Cote D’Ivoire in an international friendly at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Sports Stadium in Abidjan on Friday, May 30, 2025.
