Nahid Rana is unlikely to receive a No Objection Certificate for the upcoming Big Bash League season, with Bangladesh’s heavy international programme blocking any realistic path to a franchise deal for the 23-year-old fast bowler.

The BBL season runs from December 12 to January 26, a window that sits directly on top of Bangladesh’s scheduled international cricket. Both the Adelaide Strikers and a Melbourne-based franchise have expressed interest in signing Rana, yet no official NOC request has reached the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

“We are also seeing in different platforms that some BBL franchises are eager to secure Rana but we have not received any official letter for NOC from him. If he submits it, the board will decide whether he will get the NOC but chances are very slim for him to get the NOC considering the fact we have international commitments,” a BCB official said, as reported by Cricbuzz.

What is Nahid Rana’s current fitness status?

Rana had been sidelined by a Grade-2 side strain that ruled him out of Bangladesh’s two-match Test series against Australia. He returned to bowling earlier in the week of September 8, a meaningful step forward in his rehabilitation, though the board is managing his workload carefully given the nature of the injury.

“He (Rana) just recovered from an injury and we need to keep an eye on that as well because his fitness and workload is one of our top priorities,” the source added.

As part of his managed comeback, Rana will not feature in the Asian Games in September 2026. Bangladesh plan to reintegrate him into competitive cricket during their series against Afghanistan in the UAE in October 2026, giving him a gradual build-up before the busier months ahead.

How does Bangladesh’s schedule affect Rana’s BBL prospects?

Bangladesh face a demanding stretch of international cricket from October through to December 2026. After the Afghanistan series in the UAE, they host West Indies for a two-match Test series in October-November 2026, a fixture that forms part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle.

That home assignment is followed immediately by a full tour of South Africa in November-December 2026, covering two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. The South Africa tour stretches directly into the BBL window, which opens on December 12, leaving the BCB with almost no room to release Rana for franchise cricket.

The combination of a recovery programme, a Test series at home and a multi-format overseas tour makes the prospect of an NOC extremely difficult. The identity of the Melbourne-based franchise interested in Rana has not been officially confirmed.
