Real Madrid have set their sights on one of the rising stars at Arsenal, Myles Lewis-Skelly, with the Spanish giants aiming to add to their next generation of midfield talents. The 17-year-old, one of the most technically proficient players at Arsenal’s academy, has attracted interest from Los Blancos as they build for the future.

Madrid scouts have been watching Lewis-Skelly closely this term, in awe of his composure on the ball, defensive intellignece and box-to-box drive. He has not yet made a senior Arsenal appearance, but regularly trains with the club’s first team and has impressed Mikel Arteta and his coaching staff.

This would be in keeping with Real Madrid’s tendency of late to snap up elite youngsters early – most recently Jude Bellingham and Arda Güler. The club subscribes to the philosophy that paying for young, high-upside talent is more sustainable than chasing after expensive established names. Madrid are obviously a different story as they are more inclined to sign young players, especially now that Luka Modrić is old and Toni Kroos is out the door and Myles Lewis Skelly Real Madrid talks are starting to gain traction behind the scenes.

Madrid’s interest is not yet formal, but insiders have informed that exploratory talks have been held. Whether through agents or intermediaries, the wheels could already be in motion to test Arsenal’s resolve in the summer.

For their part, Arsenal are unlikely to entertain any offers for Lewis-Skelly. Midfielder who signed his first professional contract in 2023 is untouchable inside the Hale End system. He is the future of Arsenal’s youth, along with Ethan Nwaneri, and the team consider him to be one as a first-team player in the making.

Playing an important part in Arsenal U21’s season, Lewis-Skelly has even been appointed with the captain’s armband on occasions, despite his tender age. His combination of vision, work rate and utility—he can play deep or farther up the field in midfield has seen him emerge above his peer group at every level.

Mikel Arteta has been fulsome in his praise, previously declaring Skelly to be “exceptional with and without the ball”. The club have managed his development from the youth team into senior football in a controlled fashion and there has been no rush to fast-track him before he’s ready. But with pre-season just around the corner, there’s every chance that he will join up with Arsenal for their summer tour.

🚨 Myles Lewis-Skelly is expected to receive a ‘huge’ wage increase at Arsenal, with a new contract likely to be finalised ahead of the pre-season campaign. 👀✍️

Sources close to the club also state that Lewis-Skelly wants to stay and work on his game in North London so he is in no hurry to go. He’s only concentrating on making his Premier League debut and pushing for the first-team matchday squad.

The fascination with Myles Lewis Skelly Real Madrid brings signifies the ever-increasing focus on recruitment of the hot prospects of world football. Real Madrid’s policy of signing the future is an understandable one, especially given the success they have enjoyed so far with Bellingham and Valverde but the long-term game will prevent Arsenal making a deal happen now.

For Lewis-Skelly, remaining at Arsenal could be a clearer and certainly more stable route to first team football. Competition at the Bernabéu is fierce, however, and despite Madrid’s allure, young players often find themselves loaned out or stuck behind established stars. Arsenal, though, have shown they’re more than willing to trust their academy products, with Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe pushing proof of this.

Yet the pull of Madrid is strong, still. Even. if they do a make a formal attempt and come in with a large fee, the day-to-day of Arsenal may be compelled to consider their position if the player wishes to leave. For now, though, the ball appears to remain squarely in the camp of Arsenal.
