Highly-rated Arsenal teenage midfielder Myles Lewis Skelly is attracting more and more interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe with speculation over his future growing this summer. The 17-year-old academy product has become one of the most promising prospects in the club’s youth system, and his situation is now being closely monitored from several clubs in Europe.

Lewis Skelly joined the Arsenal youth set-up in 2023 and has been featuring for both the club’s Under-18s and Under-21s, adept on the ball and cool in possession with a great work ethic. Impressive performances in both the FA Youth Cup and on the Premier League 2 stage have him touted as a long-term successor in the Arsenal midfield.

The club hold the player in high regard, but they have not exactly shown a clear way when he could be integrated into the first team. Right now, Arsenal’s first-team midfield is all clogged up anyway, with supreme experience in names like Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard and Jorginho and bags of potential, too, with them in Fabio Vieira and Charlie Patino. This traffic has hampered the route of Lewis Skelly, and teams in Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands continue to monitor his situation.

Lewis Skelly still has time on his existing contract, but some of the European game’s most development-focused clubs are circling. Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Ajax are some of the clubs reportedly tracking him, with all three known for providing young players with ample experience at the senior level. Scouts from these teams have attended several Arsenal kids games this past season and Skelly has stood out with his awareness and vision on the ball, as well as his level head.

Despite the increased attention, Arsenal have said that they’re going to hold on to Myles Lewis Skelly for the foreseeable future. The club have faith in his development and are plowing a lot of money into both youth and development under Mikel Arteta. But now the Gunners must prove to the teenager that there is is a clear route into the first team at the Emirates to avoid a repeat of past situations where talents departed for lack of opportunity.

Arsenal’s refusal to allow him to go out on loan last season told you that they had wanted to keep him near the London Colney base to oversee his development. But with other clubs able to offer possible first-team minutes earlier, the onus is now on Arsenal to make the move. More midfield recruits are also likely this summer and that will only hinder his prospects – if the club aren’t willing to look within.

Myles Lewis skelly is a professional boy and would never get ahead of himself with his focus but word is, he knows about the interest and is being prudent. At that stage of his development, playing regularly is of paramount importance and Arsenal need to decide whether to fast-track him into first-team training or loan him out in line with their long-term plans for him.

Arsenal can’t afford to mishandle Myles Lewis Skelly. The technical base, intelligence and arrogance he possesses at 17 make him perfect for modern-day Premier League football. But talent alone doesn’t guarantee success: Without opportunity, even the most shimmering stars struggle to thrive, or end up joining bolder clubs who offer it.

Arsenal’s faith in youth has to exemplified beyond deals and platitudes. So clear development plans and, in so much as possible, meaningful minutes—be they through cup games or savvy loans—are golden. With the cream of Europe’s elite circulating, Arsenal must take the initiative, rather than wait for the inevitable exit of one of Hale End’s most talented midfielders.

If they do want Myles Lewis Skelly to be that beacon in red and white, then they have to show him there is tangible and not merely notional route from Hale End to the Emirates.
