Mohun Bagan Super Giant have been handed a national transfer ban on the registration of new players by FIFA, following a technical issue linked to the transfer of Australian striker Jason Cummings. The development comes via official communication from the Director of FIFA Judicial Bodies. However, club sources have strongly clarified that the issue is administrative in nature and not a result of any financial irregularities or regulatory breach.

The complication reportedly stems from the training compensation related to Cummings’ transfer from A-League side Central Coast Mariners in 2023. While the Kolkata-based club had duly paid the agreed transfer fee at the time of signing, a discrepancy within FIFA’s Clearing House system flagged a delay or incomplete settlement of the training compensation—an amount owed to the player’s former development clubs.

According to insiders within Mohun Bagan, the club made multiple attempts to clear the amount post-transfer, but due to unforeseen technical hurdles, the payment did not process as intended. As a result, FIFA imposed a temporary ban on registering new players at the national level.

Club officials remain unfazed and have assured fans that the issue is minor and well on its way to being resolved. ā€œThe necessary paperwork has already been initiated, and we are confident the matter will be sorted within a week,ā€ said a source familiar with the situation.

Importantly, the ban does not concern any financial misconduct or violation of registration laws. With the summer transfer window approaching, the Mariners will look to swiftly resolve the situation to avoid any disruptions in their squad-building plans for the upcoming season.
