Manchester United are reportedly set to offer veteran shot-stopper Tom Heaton a contract before the expiration of his current deal this June.
Heaton, 39, has cemented himself as a reliable third-choice goalkeeper at the Red Devils since arriving on a free transfer in 2021. He has featured in only three appearances across all competitions for his team, keeping three clean sheets in the process.
Now, according to acclaimed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ruben Amorim’s team want Heaton to stay at the club. They have opened talks with the player, who is deemed key for integration of young stars, over a contract renewal until June 2026.
Heaton, who is a Manchester United academy product, has played in 116 Premier League matches so far. The Englishman has registered 29 clean sheets and conceded 167 goals in the Premier League.
Apart from making 185 EFL Championship appearances, the goalkeeper has also featured in 20 EFL Cup outings and 10 FA Cup matches. He has also registered one shutout in one UEFA Champions League game.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Manchester United icon Paul Scholes backed his former team to win the 2025 UEFA Europa League summit clash against Tottenham Hotsur. He said on TNT Sports (h/t Metro):
Scholes, who helped the Red Devils lift 26 trophies as a player, added:
While the Red Devils defeated Athletic Club 7-1 on aggregate in the last-four stage, Spurs beat Bodo/Glimt 5-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.
Ruben Amorim’s outfit will face Spurs in Bilbao on Wednesday (May 21).
