Man Utd player ratings vs Tottenham: Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford are finally building something – but Erik ten Hag’s midfield comes up short in Spurs draw

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Wayne Rooney in attendance, Manchester United’s attackers finally put on a show against Tottenham on Sunday, but their midfielders barely got a grip on the game and allowed the visitors to twice fight back in an entertaining yet disheartening 2-2 draw.

Rasmus Hojlund ripped a new hole in the Old Trafford net with his thunderous opening strike in the third minute, but poor marking from a corner allowed Richarlison to level.

Hojlund combined with Marcus Rashford as the England striker scored his first goal at Old Trafford this season before half-time, but United’s good work was undone less than a minute into the second half as the midfield and defence made it all to easy for Timo Werner to find Rodrigo Bentancur, who strolled his way through to score.

Spurs continued to call the shots and United only caused danger on the break, although substitute Scott McTominay really should have found a winner in added time when he sent a free header over the bar.
