Liverpool are reportedly considering a £100 million move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon as manager Arne Slot continues the summer rebuild. The Reds have been keeping tabs on Gordon since last year, as they see him as a player who can bolster their attack.
After winning the 2024-25 Premier League title, Liverpool have been actively looking to make new signings in the ongoing transfer window. They recently signed right-back Jeremie Frimpong and goalkeeper Armin Pecsi and are on the verge of completing a transfer record deal for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Amid the transfer saga, one player who has been linked with an exit from Anfield is Luis Diaz. The Colombia international has been heavily tipped to join Barcelona over the past couple of months, but negotiations between both parties have yet to take place.
In preparation for Diaz’s potential departure, a report from The Sun (via Geordie Boot Boys) suggested that Liverpool could reignite their interest in Anthony Gordon. Meanwhile, the report adds that the Premier League champions will need to resolve Luis Diaz’s situation first before they can proceed with a move for Gordon.
Anthony Gordon was one of Newcastle’s standout players in the just-concluded season, registering 15 goal contributions for the club across competitions. While Liverpool could be optimistic about a potential transfer, Gordon signed a new deal with Newcastle in October. The Magpies didn’t disclose the length of the contract, describing it as “long term,” but The Daily Mail claimed the new deal will run until 2029.
Emile Heskey recently opined that Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon would be a good replacement for Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota at Liverpool. Apart from Diaz, Jota has also been linked with an exit from Anfield.
In an exclusive interview with Prime Casino, Heskey was asked if Gordon would be a perfect replacement for the duo on the left-hand side, to which he replied:
Last season, Luis Díaz recorded 17 goals and eight assists in 50 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool, while Diogo Jota contributed nine goals and four assists in 37 matches for the club.
