Urvil Patel announced his arrival in IPL 2025 with a powerful cameo for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during his debut match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Replacing the injured Vansh Bedi in the squad, the Gujarat-based wicketkeeper-batter was in the spotlight—and he did not disappoint. Chasing 180 runs, CSK lost two early wickets—Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway—which stumbled CSK’s innings in the powerplay.

With CSK struggling at 25 for two, Urvil took the aggressive route to counter the opposition while batting at number three. In just 11 balls, he smashed 31 runs, which included four boundaries and one maximum, with a jaw-dropping strike rate of 281.81. His fearless approach was best seen in the third over, where he launched Harshit Rana for a massive six over wide long-on and then followed it with another boundary.

Who is Urvil Patel?

Despite his explosive intent, Urvil’s innings was cut short when he edged a fuller delivery to short third man, brilliantly caught by Varun Chakravarthy. Originally picked as a backup, Urvil’s fearless strokeplay and confidence under pressure have now sparked discussions about CSK’s potential future plans. With a solid domestic record and now an impactful IPL debut, Urvil Patel has marked his arrival in style.

Urvil was part of Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2023. CSK paid ₹30 lakh for his services, and he had 1,162 runs to his name in 47 T20 matches before this game. Notably, he is still the fastest T20 centurion for India, smashing a century off just 28 balls against Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024.
