Defending champions Western Region launched their title defence with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Upper West Region in the opening Group A fixture of the 2025 KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U-17 Colts Championship at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Saturday, September 20.

The Western side, widely tipped to contend again, signaled their intent with an early three points in an entertaining clash that set the tone for a vibrant start to the nine-day tournament.

In the other Group A match, Volta Region produced a composed display to claim a comfortable 2-0 win over Elite Academy (Bolga) while Greater Accra overcame last year’s bronze medalists, Northern Region with clinical finishing and disciplined defending in a 2-0 win.

In Group B, a tense stalemate went the distance before Upper East prevailed in the shoot-out against Greater Accra Elite B, winning 5-3 on penalties.

Central Region edged Brong Ahafo in a five-goal thriller, winning 3-2 to make an early statement of intent, while last year’s losing finalists, Eastern Region beat Ashanti Region 3-1.

Now in its fifth year, the KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship continues to cement its reputation as a premier talent showcase, with numerous alumni progressing to Ghana’s junior national teams and excelling in the domestic leagues.

With an expanded 12-team lineup featuring all ten Regional Football Associations and the GFA Elite Academies, the 2025 edition promises high-quality football and the emergence of Ghana’s next generation of stars.
