KGL U17 Colts 2025: Central Region rise, Western keep pace – Matchday 4 recap

The 2025 KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U-17 Colts Championship served up another riveting matchday on Tuesday September 23, with both groups producing decisive results that sharpen the race for knockout qualification and highlights the tournament’s reputation as Ghana’s leading showcase for emerging football talent at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Group A

Greater Accra reinforced their status as title favourites, recording a composed 2–0 victory over Volta Region on the betPawa pitch.

The capital side dictated the tempo from kickoff, using slick passing and relentless pressing to dominate possession and sealed victory.

The result keeps Greater Accra unbeaten and firmly on course for a place in the knockout stage, preserving their slender lead at the top of Group A.

Defending champions Western Region kept the pressure on, matching the leaders’ scoreline with a convincing 2–0 triumph over last year’s bronze medalists, Northern Region. Displaying their trademark attacking flair, the Western side stretched Northern’s defense with pace on the wings and clinical finishing.

The “Western show boys” now sit just a single point adrift of Greater Accra, setting up a tantalizing battle for first place in the group’s final round.

Group B

The drama shifted to the FIFA pitch where Central Region produced a statement performance, defeating last year’s runners-up Eastern Region 2–0.

The result lifts Central to the top of Group B, opening a three-point cushion and overtaking early leaders Ashanti Region.

In another closely fought encounter, Brong Ahafo secured a valuable 1–0 win over Upper Region. But the day’s biggest upset came when Greater Accra Elite B stunned Ashanti Region with a confident 2–0 triumph. It was Elite B’s first victory of the tournament, a morale-boosting result that gives them a strong finish to target, even if qualification is no longer within reach.

Now in its fifth year, the KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship has cemented its status as Ghana’s premier platform for spotting and nurturing young football talent.

The 2025 edition boasts an expanded 12-team lineup drawn from all ten Regional Football Associations alongside the GFA Elite Academies, delivering competitive depth and nationwide representation.
