Jordan Poole bricked the worst clutch shot ever to help Knicks win

It feels like Jordan Poole has been sent to NBA Siberia since helping the Golden State Warriors win the 2022 championship. Poole was immediately rewarded with a near-max $140 million extension, then he was punched in the face by Draymond Greene at practice, and traded to the Washington Wizards in Golden State’s short-lived Chris Paul move. After two seasons of playing in obscurity for a tanking team, Poole was traded last summer to the New Orleans Pelicans, another cellar-dweller, and chances are you haven’t heard much about him this season.

The Pelicans hosted the mighty New York Knicks on Monday, and Jordan Poole was prominently involved for the reasons NBA fans have come to expect. Poole had a nice night as a scorer, finishing with 26 points in 26 minutes on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor with no turnovers. That’s a highly efficient volume scoring night for anyone. Unfortunately, Poole’s game will only be remembered for his final shot, which was possibly the worst clutch attempt you will ever see.

With the Knicks leading by three in the final seconds, Poole zipped around the arc to take a handoff, tried to grift a foul on New York guard Miles McBride which the refs didn’t call, and then absolutely bricked a game-tying three-point attempt. Watch the play here:

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a clutch shot hit that part of the backboard before? This is disgusting basketball, and for once the refs need to be lauded for not bailing him out with a foul call he didn’t deserve.

Poole was brutal down the stretch, missing his final three shots without moving the ball on any of them. He tried to take on the Knicks’ entire team for a floater that he missed with about two minutes left. Then he took an ill-advised deep three off the catch that never had a chance. His final shot was the worst of all and the icing on the cake.
