Sunrisers Hyderabad have found themselves on the wrong side of yet another controversial moment in IPL 2026.

The Lucknow Super Giants beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets on April 5. With a solitary run needed off the final two balls, Rishabh Pant launched a Jaydev Unadkat delivery over the fielder at mid-off, finishing the match with a boundary. The ball was hit back onto the playing field by LSG’s Avesh Khan, who hit it away with his bat, with the ball appearing not to have crossed the boundary.

While this was needless, there was no fielder stationed there at the time, and it was not an attempt to obstruct the fielder from stopping the boundary. Due to claims that the ball had not crossed the ropes, SRH fans on social media were furious, arguing that the umpires and match officials should have applied MCC Law 20.1 (Dead Ball) and Law 41 (Unfair Play), and should have awarded five penalty runs to SRH.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the Sunrisers Hyderabad are set to report the incident to the BCCI, along with other incidents from previous games. This is expected to include Phil Salt’s controversial catch of Heinrich Klaasen in their opening game against RCB. Klaasen was adjudged out, despite footage showing the RCB player touching the boundary cushion with his shoes.

In their game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Varun Chakravarthy’s diving catch at the mid-wicket boundary to dismiss Abhishek Sharma became a talking point as the ball appeared to touch the grass before landing in Varun’s hands.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad played their first game at home against the Lucknow Super Giants. They have played three games, having won against the Knight Riders, but have lost two, against the Royal Challengers and the Super Giants. They play against the Punjab Kings on April 11 at the New PCA Stadium in Mullanpur.
