The Rajasthan Royals (RR) lost their third consecutive game at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium after suffering a 77-run defeat at the hands of the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 52 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday, 9 May.

GT were put into bat by stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal, with the visitors going on to register 229 runs on the board. Their innings received an outstanding platform thanks to an 118-run opening partnership forged by Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. The skipper scored 84 off just 44 balls while his opening partner registered 55 runs of his own.

RR never really got going in the run chase, losing wickets at regular intervals, which prevented them from forging a big enough partnership to give themselves a real chance to get closer to the target. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi started well with his 36, but was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj within the powerplay. Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers for GT, taking four wickets to bamboozle the middle order. Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder also chipped in with two and three wickets, respectively.

As is the case with every single IPL game this season, RR vs GT also saw teams break some records and players achieve personal milestones. Both Gill and Sudharsan’s opening partnership saw them achieve a couple of noteworthy records, alongside Sooryavanshi reaching a major landmark in his young career.

Here are the most important stats and milestones from Match 52:

  • Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan: Highest partnership for GT against RR for any wicket (118)
  • Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan: Second-most century stands in the IPL history (9)
  • Gujarat Titans: Fourth-highest total in their IPL history (229)
  • Gujarat Titans: Biggest win margins for GT by runs (77)
  • Rashid Khan: Third-best figures for Rashid in IPL (4-33)
  • Rashid Khan: Second-most 3-wicket hauls among spinners in IPL (18)
  • Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: Reached 100 sixes in his T20 career
  • Dhruv Jurel: Reached 50 sixes in IPL career
