Rajasthan Royals comprehensively beat the Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets in Match 3 of the Indian Premier League 2026, at the Barasapara Stadium in Guwahati.

Put into bat first on a Guwahati surface experiencing rain for the past few days, the five-time champions were blown away in the powerplay, as they found themselves at 41/4, with the returning Nandre Burger and Jofra Archer clearing up the top order. Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets in his first over, on his return in pink, leaving the Super Kings at 57/6 at the end of eight overs. A late 43 from Jamie Overton ensured that CSK finished their innings at 127, despite being bowled out.

In response, the Rajasthan Royals started in dominant fashion, with prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi scoring a 15-ball half-century, the third-fastest in IPL history. The 15-year-old was dismissed for 52, but his innings had ensured the Royals had the platform set up for the innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal, unbeaten on 38, and captain Riyan Parag, unbeaten on 14, led the Royals home with eight wickets in hand and 41 balls to spare.

Key Talking Points

1. Chennai Super Kings blown away in the powerplay

After being put into bat, Chennai Super Kings found themselves reeling at 41/4 at the end of the powerplay. Rajasthan’s onslaught started when the returning Nandre Burger bowled new CSK star man Sanju Samson in the final ball of the second over and followed it up by nicking off Ayush Mhatre in the first ball of his next over. In between those two dismissals, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad fell to Jofra Archer. Sandeep Sharma picked up the wicket of Matt Short, who chipped a slower ball up to Yashasvi Jaswal at mid-on.

2. Jadeja’s dream over on RR return

Ravindra Jadeja on his return to the Rajasthan Royals got a wicket off just his second ball of the game, trapping Sarfaraz Khan plumb in front after he missed a sweep. Three balls later, he bowled a wide one to Shivam Dube, who found the fielder at long off trying to launch the ball over. Dube’s dismissal was followed up with an animated celebration from the veteran all rounder, and Chennai Super Kings found themselves in serious trouble at 57/6 at the end of Jadeja’s spell.

3. Suryavanshi picks up where he left off in 2025

15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi started the 2026 season in similar fashion to 2025. On a wicket where powerplay batting had been difficult, the 15-year-old raced to a 15-ball half-century, with four fours and five sixes. He took the hapless Chennai bowlers all around the park, as it set the platform for the Royals in a comfortable chase. If Vaibhav is to carry this form for the rest of the season, then it is a dangerous prospect for all the other teams.

Flair on display 🔥
