IPL 2026: Mumbai Indians' strongest predicted XI against Kolkata Knight Riders
SHARE

Mumbai Indians (MI) will begin their IPL 2026 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on March 29, with their sights set on a record-extending sixth title. The five-time champions finished third in IPL 2025 and have not lifted the trophy since 2020. With a squad packed with match-winners, MI will look to make a strong statement in their opening game.

Here is MI’s strongest predicted XI for their first game of the season:

Top Order: Quinton de Kock (wk), Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav

Rohit Sharma is expected to open the innings and will be key to providing a solid start. The former MI captain has looked in excellent touch in the nets and has carried good form from ODIs into this season. Quinton de Kock is likely to feature as the wicketkeeper-batter, adding experience and aggression at the top. Suryakumar Yadav is set to bat at No. 3. Despite a disappointing T20 World Cup, he was in sensational form during IPL 2025, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer.

Middle Order: Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (c), Naman Dhir

Tilak Varma has shown great promise in the middle order and is known for his ability to take on spin bowlers. Captain Hardik Pandya will be crucial with both bat and ball, bringing leadership and all-round strength to the side. Naman Dhir is expected to play the finisher’s role, having impressed with his performances in the previous season.

Lower Order: Sherfane Rutherford, Will Jacks

Sherfane Rutherford is likely to provide additional firepower in the lower order, complementing Dhir in finishing games strongly. Will Jacks offers flexibility, as he can bat in multiple positions and contribute with useful off-spin when required.

Bowler: Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

The bowling attack looks formidable, led by Jasprit Bumrah, widely regarded as one of the best pacers in the world. His ability to deliver in all phases makes him MI’s biggest asset. Deepak Chahar will play a key role in the powerplay with his swing bowling, while Trent Boult’s experience and effectiveness with the new ball add further strength.

MI’s predicted playing XI:

Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (c), Naman Dhir, Sherfane Rutherford, Will Jacks, Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult
