The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 18 of the 2026 Indian Premier League, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 11.

The Super Kings come into this clash having lost three games, looking to get off the mark in the competition. While players have stepped up at different moments, their performance with both bat and ball is yet to inspire confidence. Having lost against the Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, they will be looking to set the record straight when the Capitals come visiting.

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals started their season strongly, with two wins in their first two games, against the Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians. They come into this fixture on the back of a narrow one-run loss to the Gujarat Titans, a game in which they were in control for the most part. The side has shown balance and promise, and enter this contest as favourites despite playing away at one of the more challenging grounds in the country.

Here are the potential impact players for the two teams:

Kartik Sharma: Kartik Sharma has been Chennai’s go-to impact option in their previous games. Signed for INR 14 crore, he is yet to step up with the bat, but has shown glimpses of the shots in his arsenal.

Dewald Brevis: The South African batter was sidelined through a side strain for the early games of the season. His return is expected against the Capitals.

Matthew Short: Short made his debut for the Super Kings against the Rajasthan Royals, but his weaknesses against spin were exposed early. He is a destructive batter who provides handy off–spin.

Ramakrishna Ghosh: Joining the Super Kings in 2025, Ghosh is a highly-rated fast-bowling all-rounder, able to pick up wickets when conditions favour, and provide dependable hitting at the back end.

Gurjapneet Singh: One of the highly-rated fast bowlers in Tamil Nadu, Gurjapneet has been successful in the red-ball formats. He can move the ball both ways and generates steep bounce off the wicket with his height.

Sameer Rizvi: Batting second in all three games, Rizvi has been the Capitals’ impact option in all games. With match-winning scores of 70* and 90 in the first two games, he will be expected to continue the same form despite the initial hiccup against the Titans.

Ashutosh Sharma: Ashutosh Sharma is one of the most exciting domestic finishers in the IPL. While the Capitals struggled towards the back end against the Titans, fans have been calling for better use of Ashutosh’s abilities in the back end of the innings.

Auqib Nabi: The Jammu & Kashmir quick is yet to make an appearance in the IPL after being signed for INR 8.40 crores in the auction. While he is a primarily long-format bowler, expected to excel in the powerplay, he has added to his repertoire a slew of slower balls and variations, making him a reliable option in the death overs.

Dushmantha Chameera: The Sri Lankan quick is coming off the back of a good T20 World Cup campaign and will be looking to make a mark if his chance comes with the Capitals. A reliable all-phase bowler, he can fill in any role required in the squad.

Karun Nair: One of India’s domestic batting stalwarts, Karun Nair showed glimpses of brilliance in 2025. With an ability to bat anywhere in the top or middle order, he is a sure shot to fill in when a slot opens up.
