A Chennai Super Kings reunion is set to be held in Chennai on March 22, with the franchise inviting several of its former players, including those currently associated with other Indian Premier League teams. Confirmed attendees include legendary players Muttiah Muralitharan, Matthew Hayden, and Dwayne Bravo.

The announcement sparked curiosity among IPL franchises, with speculation about a possible major reveal at the event. However, officials from CSK quickly clarified that the gathering is purely a formal pre-IPL function, aimed at marking the launch of the 2026 season.

“It is just a pre-launch for the season and an exercise in fan engagement. There is nothing more to read into it,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said to Cricbuzz.

Around 19-20 former players are expected to attend the reunion, in addition to the current squad and support staff. True to Chennai Super Kings’s style, the event is expected to be a grand affair, running from 4 pm to 9 pm at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. A special segment has been reserved for a performance by Oscar-winning music director AR Rahman.

The franchise has also reached out to other teams to check if their coaching staff could be released for the day. Muralitharan, currently in India for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camp, has confirmed his attendance. Among other former stars, Suresh Raina will also be present, while Ravichandran Ashwin, who began his career with CSK, is unlikely to attend as he will be out of Chennai.

By the day of the event, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, members of India’s victorious T20 World Cup-winning side, will have joined the ongoing CSK camp, which began in Chennai on March 1.

Chennai Super Kings are scheduled to begin their IPL 2026 campaign with an away fixture against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati on March 30, followed by their first home game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 3. CSK remain one of the most popular franchises in the league, having won the title five times, with their talisman MS Dhoni hailed as an all-time IPL great.
