IPL 2025, SRH vs DC: What will happen if Match 55 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad washed out?

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are hosting Delhi Capitals (DC) in match No. 55 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday, May 5.

This is the second time these two teams are facing each other in IPL 2025. In their previous meeting in Visakhapatnam, SRH were rolled over for 163 before DC romped home with seven wickets and four overs to spare.

On Monday, Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to field first. The SRH captain bagged three wickets inside the powerplay to dismantle the DC lineup. Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel also struck inside the first six overs as DC lost half their side with only 29 runs on the board. Vipraj Nigam and Tristan Stubbs tried to resurrect the ship, but the former was run out following a misunderstanding with his partner.

Ashutosh Sharma came in as the Impact Player and smashed 41 off 26 balls. Stubbs, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 41 off 36 deliveries to take DC to 133/7. The players have not been able to return to the field after the mid-innings break with a steady rain being the culprit.

What will happen if the match is washed out?

If the match gets washed out, both teams will be awarded one point each. This is because the game can only get a result once five overs have been bowled in the second innings.Ā It is important to note that the match is scheduled to end at 10:50 PM (IST). However, there is a 60-minute buffer time available for use. Therefore, the match should end buy 11:50 PM. The latest a five-over chase can start is 11:27 PM.

Could both teams’ tournament be affected by a wash-out?

Sunrisers Hyderabad are hanging by a thread as far as qualification to the playoffs is concerned. If they get one point on Sunday, they will be the third team to get eliminated. Meanwhile, Delhi wouldn’t have such a catastrophic consequence if the game gets washed out. They will have 13 points from 11 games and can still reach 19 points with wins in their three remaining fixtures.
