In Match No. 54 of the IPL 2025 at Dharamsala, Punjab Kings (PBKS) outclassed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 37 runs to climb up to second place in the points table. Batting first after losing the toss, PBKS managed to put up their 11th 200-plus total in IPL history of 236/5 thanks to Prabhsimran Singh’s knock of 91 off 48 balls.

Despite some early concerns about pitch conditions due to pre-match rain, the PBKS batters adapted brilliantly. Prabhsimran began positively, surviving a dropped catch to hammer a series of boundaries, including seven sixes. He finished strongly, smashing 38 off his last 13 balls. Skipper Shreyas Iyer (45 off 25), Josh Inglis (30 off 14), and Shashank Singh (33* off 15) also contributed, while Marcus Stoinis chipped in with a quickfire 15* off 5 at the death.

LSG’s bowlers struggled under pressure. Mayank Yadav recorded his worst IPL figures, conceding 60 in four overs, while Avesh Khan leaked 26 runs in the 19th over. With little help from the pitch, spinners found no grip, and the seamers went for runs.

In reply, LSG’s top order struggled to score big. Arshdeep Singh delivered a match-winning spell in the powerplay, taking out Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, and Nicholas Pooran to reduce LSG to 27/3. Although Ayush Badoni (74 off 40) and Abdul Samad (45 off 24) stitched a fighting 81-run stand, the target proved too far. Azmatullah Omarzai and Marco Jansen picked wickets in the middle overs to reduce the scoring rate, with LSG eventually finishing on 199/7.

Key moments from PBKS vs LSG, Match 54 of IPL 2025:

1. Prabhsimran’s 91 powers PBKS to a huge total

Prabhsimran Singh produced a clinical display with the bat as he hammered 91 off 48 balls to guide PBKS to 236. The opener took on the bowlers from the beginning before surviving an early scare when Nicholas Pooran dropped him on 22. He capitalised immediately with a boundary. His innings featured six fours and seven sixes, with 38 runs coming from his last 13 balls. The right-handed batter now has three consecutive fifties and is seventh in the Orange Cap race with 437 runs in 11 matches. He narrowly missed becoming the first uncapped player with multiple IPL centuries, falling just nine runs short. Still, he became the first uncapped batter to surpass 1000 IPL runs.

2. Arshdeep Singh stars with a clinical three-wicket haul

PBKS pacer Arshdeep Singh‘s early three-wicket haul put immediate pressure on the opposition and put the hosts in the driver’s seat. The left-armer dismissed Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran inside the powerplay. Marsh fell for a duck, giving a simple catch to Nehal Wadhera. Markram, trying a back-foot punch, chopped on to his stumps for 13. Pooran, who was beaten by a full inswinger, was trapped plumb in front. With figures of 3/21, Arshdeep’s spell gave his side crucial breakthroughs.

3. Ayush Badoni becomes lone warrior in LSG’s fightback

Young Ayush Badoni stood tall in the chase but couldn’t take his team home due to a lack of support from the other end. Walking in at No.5, the right-handed batter smashed 74 runs off 40 balls and almost gave LSG a chance to complete this chase. His 81-run stand with Abdul Samad in the middle saw the PBKS camp in distress as the two were finding the boundaries with ease. However, with over 50 runs required in the final 12, Badoni had no choice but to attack, and in the process lost his wicket.
