The 18th edition of the IPL is approaching its last few weeks. The race for the playoffs has heated up with 5 genuine contenders having a claim towards a spot in the playoffs. Almost all of these teams are aiming to finish in the top 2 of the group stage. Likewise, about 3 teams have a tough time in qualifying, and a loss could mean the end of their road to the playoffs.

It has been such a tournament so far, where the top 5 teams seem to be way too far ahead of the teams below them. Teams like RCB, MI, GT, PBKS, and DC have won matches consistently, while teams like SRH, RR, and CSK have lost a lot of matches. Compared to the top 5 teams, some teams in the league’s history have been as dominant.

Here are the teams with most points after 10 matches in IPL:

Rajasthan Royals in 2008Ā

Rajasthan Royals in 2008 started their campaign on a great note. Despite not being regarded as favourites to win, they won 8 of their first 10 matches of the season. 2008 was a highly dominant season for RR, as they not just won 11 of their 14 matches in the Group Stage, but also won the title to become the inaugural champions.

Delhi Capitals in 2009

Delhi Capitals in the second edition of the IPL were highly dominant till the semifinal. While Deccan Chargers were equally dominant in the first half, they fell slightly off the radar in the second half of the group stage. Delhi won 8 matches in the first 10 matches and eventually lost to Deccan Chargers in the semifinal of the season, thanks to an extraordinary 95 from Adam Gilchrist.

Mumbai Indians in 2011

Mumbai Indians in 2011 were very good in the group stage of the tournament. After reaching the final of their first IPL in 2010, MI continued the momentum and won 8 of their first 10 matches of the season. In the playoffs, they had a tough battle, as RCB overcame them in Qualifier 2 to face CSK in the final of the 4th edition.

Delhi Capitals in 2012

Delhi Capitals, in the following season, topped the points table. After the first 10 matches of the season, DC won 8 matches and seemed a major favourite to win the title. Unfortunately, they lost Qualifier 1 to Kolkata Knight Riders and the Eliminator to Chennai Super Kings, to get knocked out of the tournament.Ā Ā

Chennai Super Kings in 2013

Chennai Super Kings dominated the Group Stage of the IPL 2013. MS Dhoni and Co. won 8 of the first 10 matches of the IPL 2013 and were firm favorites to win the title. Unfortunately for CSK, their end was not fruitful. In the final of the tournament, MI delivered the knockout punch by winning their maiden title to start a rivalry for ages.

Punjab Kings in 2014

Punjab Kings had their greatest season in the IPL in 2014 under the leadership of George Bailey. In the first 10 matches of the league, PBKS won 8 matches and seemed major favorites to win. Their end was anticlimactic, as KKR chased the highest-ever total in an IPL final to win their second title in the league.

Chennai Super Kings in 2014

Much like Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings had a great start to their campaign in the IPL 2014. The Chennai-based franchise had 8 wins in their first 10 matches. However, KKR’s resurgence out of nowhere helped them to finish second in the points table. CSK lost to PBKS in Qualifier 2 despite an unbelievable knock from Suresh Raina.

Mumbai Indians in 2017

Mumbai Indians were one of the major favorites to win in the IPL 2017. Probably the only team that was capable of beating them was Rising Pune Super Giants, who had won all three of their matches over MI till the final. MI had 8 wins in their first 10 matches of the season, and emerged victorious in the final by beating RPS by a solitary run.

Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018

Sunrisers Hyderabad had a dominant run in the IPL 2018 till the final. In the absence of David Warner, Kane Williamson led them from the front and took SRH to their second final. In their first 10 matches after the Group stage, SRH had 8 wins to their name. After losing to CSK in the final, SRH became the first team to lose 4 matches against an opponent in a single edition of the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings in 2021

Chennai Super Kings won their fourth title in the IPL 2021. Their tournament, for the most part, was highly dominant, due to a collective team effort. In the first 10 matches, CSK won 8 and lost just 2 matches. In the qualifier 1 and the final, CSK beat DC and KKR, respectively, to win the title pretty convincingly.

Delhi Capitals in 2021

Much like CSK, Delhi Capitals were dominant in the Group stage of the IPL 2021. In fact, they beat CSK twice in the season and seemed firm favorites to win. In their first 10 matches of the season, DC claimed 8 wins and suffered only 2 losses. DC’s performance in the playoffs was not good, as they lost to CSK and KKR in the qualifier 1 and the qualifier 2, respectively.

Gujarat Titans in 2022

Gujarat Titans impressed everyone in their very first season in 2022 when they won the title, exceeding everyone’s expectations. GT had a dominant run in the group stage and the playoffs. After the first 10 matches of the season, GT claimed 8 wins and suffered only two losses. In the Knockouts, GT convincingly beat RR in Qualifier 1 and the final to win the title.

Rajasthan Royals in 2024

Rajasthan Royals were the most dominant team in the Group Stage of the IPL 2024. At one stage, it seemed like they would never lose a game. In the first 10 matches of the season, the inaugural champions had 8 wins and just 2 losses to their name. In the Eliminator, RR knocked RCB out of the tournament. However, they lost to SRH in Qualifier 2.

In the IPL 2025, the best performance by a team after their first 10 matches has been by RCB, who have 7 wins to their name. Likewise, teams like MI, PBKS, and DC have 6 wins in their first 10 matches of the season. GT has 6 wins in their first 9 matches and have a good chance of making it 7 if they beat SRH in their upcoming match.
