The fourth and final IPL 2025 playoffs berth was sealed with Mumbai Indians’ 59-run win win over Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 21.
MI, who were put in to bat first, struggled a bit at the start as Rohit Sharma failed to get going while Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks could not convert their starts. Suryakumar Yadav (73* off 43) was the star of the show, as after starting slow, he built an important partnership with Tilak Varma. He teed off eventually in the company of Naman Dhir as Mumbai Indians added 48 runs in the last two overs to reach a competitive 180.Ā
Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult then struck early in the powerplay and put DC on the backfoot. Vipraj Nigam offered some resistance, but half the DC side was back in the hut even before the 10-over mark. Mitchell Santner (3 for 11) and Jasprit Bumrah (3 for 12) stifled the middle-order as MI eventually won by a massive margin.Ā
The result means that MI will join Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings in the playoffs while Delhi Capitals have become the sixth and final team to be eliminated from the tournament.Ā
