The 56th match of the IPL 2025, played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, May 6 ended with GT winning by three wickets in a rain-affected thriller. Bowling from both sides was great, and the wicket was not the easiest to bat on. In the end, MI’s lack of game sense cost them the match, thus ending their winning streak of six games.
GT restricted MI to 155/8 in their first innings, thanks to a collapse in the latter’s middle overs. MI were going good at one stage during the partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Will Jacks. The former’s dismissal led to a collapse where MI was reduced from 97/2 after 10.3 overs to 123/7 after 16.2 overs. From there, Corbin Bosch helped MI to post a competitive score.
Chasing 156, GT lost the wicket of Sai Sudharsan early. The conditions were tough to bat due to the swing on offer. Hence, GT batters could not make the most of the Powerplay overs. At one stage, Shubman Gill was 16(23), who ended up scoring 43(46). Sherfane Rutherford’s 28(15) kept the visiting side alive in the game when rain interfered.
Rain affected the match twice, and the second instance led to the match being reduced to 19 overs per side. The revised target for GT was 15 runs in the last over. Deepak Chahar did not have the best of nights. Rahul Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee’s timely cameos helped GT to claim a thrilling win, while minute mistakes ensured MI lost the game.
