Chennai Super Kings (CSK) edged past Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by two wickets in Match 57 of IPL 2025, putting a major blow to KKRās playoff qualification hopes. Dewald Brevis was the difference maker with his 25-ball 52 that changed the game, after CSK were struggling at 60/5 in their chase of 180.
Earlier, KKR posted a total of 179/6 after opting to bat first. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane (48 off 33) anchored the innings, while Andre Russell provided the late flourish with a 38 off just 21 balls. Sunil Narine (26 off 17) gave KKR a decent start, but Noor Ahmad ended with a brilliant spell of 4/31, including two wickets in one over. MS Dhoni was brilliant behind the stumps, grabbing a catch and completing a stumping.
Chennaiās chase got off to an underwhelming start. Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway departed without scoring, while debutant Urvil Patel played a quickfire 31 before falling to Harshit Rana. Brevis counterattacked by smashing four sixes and four fours in his 25-ball cameo. His best moment came in the 11th over, when he smashed Vaibhav Arora for 30 runs. However, after Brevisās dismissal, Shivam Dube and Dhoni got the score closer to the target.
Dube (45 off 40) hit three sixes but fell trying to accelerate in the penultimate over. The game came down to eight needed off the final over, with two wickets in hand and Dhoni at the crease. The CSK skipper smashed a six off the first ball and took a single to level the scores. Eventually, Anshul Kamboj, facing his first delivery, smashed Andre Russell over mid-on for four to seal the win with two balls to spare.
