Following a disappointing campaign, East Bengal are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to build a competitive squad for the upcoming season. The Red-and-Golds have been very active in the transfer market, with their focus now firmly on bolstering the midfield.

The club are currently in advanced negotiations with Bashundhara Kings’ Brazilian midfielder Miguel Figueira Damasceno. If talks progress smoothly, the 25-year-old could become East Bengal’s first overseas signing of the season. Sources indicate that the deal, which is expected to be for one year, is subject to the successful completion of medical tests. Discussions between the player’s representatives and club officials are ongoing, particularly regarding financial terms, but optimism remains high that the deal will be finalised soon.

East Bengal have been scouting for a quality No. 8 to anchor their midfield, and Figueira appears to be the ideal fit. Known for his versatility, he can operate effectively in both attacking and defensive roles. What further strengthens his case is his familiarity with head coach Oscar Bruzon’s system, having previously worked under him at Basundhara Kings. Figueira was a pivotal figure during Bruzon’s tenure in Bangladesh, making him a priority signing for the Spanish tactician.

He enjoyed an impressive season in the Bangladesh Premier League, registering five goals and six assists in just nine appearances. Prior to his stint in Bangladesh, he played for Goiás EC in Brazil’s Serie B.

Meanwhile, East Bengal are preparing for a major overhaul of their foreign contingent. According to club insiders, most overseas players will be released ahead of the new season. Only Greek striker Dimitrios Diamantakos is expected to continue with the team. Spanish midfielder Saul Crespo may be loaned out to another club.
