India started their T20I series against West Indies with a bang, securing an emphatic eight-wicket victory in the first match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on October 6.

Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first. West Indies were bowled out for 171 in 19.1 overs, with captain Shai Hope leading the way with 52 off 37 balls, including six fours and two sixes. Sherfane Rutherford also impressed, smashing 56 off 34 balls with six fours and three sixes.

For India, Naman Dhir was the pick of the bowlers with 3/31, while Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav claimed two wickets each.

In reply, India chased down the target in just 14.4 overs. Iyer produced a sensational unbeaten 102 off 43 balls, smashing 10 fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 237.21 to seal a dominant eight-wicket win.

Indian captain Shreyas Iyer was the standout batting performer of the match, smashing an unbeaten 102 off just 43 balls. He struck 10 fours and six sixes at a sensational strike rate of 237.21. Iyer also forged a match-winning 137-run partnership with Ishan Kishan for the third wicket, with the duo adding the runs off just 67 balls.

Naman Dhir was the standout bowling performer for India, finishing with impressive figures of 3/31 in his four overs. He dismissed West Indies captain Shai Hope, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer to play a crucial role in restricting the visitors to 171.

Shreyas Iyer won the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten century, which powered India to a dominant eight-wicket victory and a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series against West Indies.
