Chelsea gaffer Enzo Maresca has pointed to manager Luis Enrique’s accomplishments at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the 2024-25 season as a source of inspiration. The Italian aims to replicate that success at Stamford Bridge. Maresca was appointed as Chelsea manager last summer after Mauricio Pochettino was dismissed from the position.
In a roller coaster of a season for the Blues, Maresca was able to guide them to winning their first trophy since 2021 in his first season in charge. They defeated Spanish side Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final, becoming the first team to win all major European club competitions.
In a recent interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Enzo Maresca praised Luis Enrique for transforming PSG and hoped to do the same at Stamford Bridge. The Blues boss said:
Elsewhere, Luis Enrique took over the managerial reins at PSG in the summer of 2023, and under the guidance of the Spaniard, the team has evolved in their general gameplay. In Enrique’s second season in charge of the club, which is the just-concluded 2024-25 campaign, he led the French giants to their first-ever Champions League glory and a historic quadruple.
After Enzo Maresca was given the managerial job at Stamford Bridge, one of the tasks given to him was to return the club to the Champions League within his first two years in charge. However, the Italian was able to achieve the aim in his maiden campaign at the club as they finished in the fourth position on the Premier League table.
In the same interview, when asked if Chelsea had achieved their objectives in the 2024–25 campaign, Maresca said:
Maresca could win his second trophy as Blues manager before the start of next season, as the Blues will participate in the Club World Cup.
An ardent Chelsea fan, Ezekiel’s journey as a football fan began in his childhood, witnessing Ronaldinho dazzle with his skills. His interest in the beautiful game deepened after Nigeria were knocked out of the 2010 FIFA World Cup; he was impressed with the Super Eagles’ fighting spirit in their 2-2 Group B draw against South Korea. Some other World Cup matches which have left a deep impact on him were Belgium’s incredible comeback against Japan in the round of 16 of the 2018 version and the 2022 final.
