Prasidh Krishna has opened up about his rehabilitation journey following injury, emphasising the mental and physical demands of returning to competitive cricket. The fast bowler is preparing for India’s ODI series against West Indies scheduled for September 27, 2026, as the team builds towards major tournaments including the World Cup 2027 in South Africa and a Test series against Australia.

Krishna spoke about the gruelling nature of recovery and the importance of support systems during his comeback bid. He highlighted how the rehabilitation process requires consistent effort and the backing of sports science staff, family and friends to navigate the challenges of returning to the sport.

“Being injured and unable to take part in the cricket that’s going on is difficult for anyone. The rehab journey is gruelling because you have to do the same things again and again. That’s where the team and sports science staff become really important. The people around you are also crucial, so surrounding yourself with good people, especially family and friends, is very important,” said Krishna to JioStar.

“Beyond that, it comes down to how badly you want things to go the way you want them to. It’s easy to sit back and say, ‘I was injured, I couldn’t do much, and it will take time to come back.’ But you also need that mental resilience to get up and get going. I always tell myself that if I was at a certain level when I got injured, I need to be ten times better when I come back. That mindset is really important,” he added.

World Cup 2027 and the South Africa conditions

Krishna has reflected on the complexities of the ODI format and what it demands from fast bowlers in the modern game. The format requires bowlers to operate effectively across all three phases of an innings, with the powerplay adding particular difficulty to their role.

“The ODI format is very interesting, and I think it’s the toughest format because you have to adapt between different phases of the game. For a bowler who has to operate in all three phases, the powerplay has made it even more challenging. But that’s the challenge. The harder things get, the fewer people there are who can do it well,” Krishna said.

“That’s what I’m looking forward to. One-day cricket is exciting, and a World Cup in South Africa will be particularly exciting for fast bowlers. High-scoring games have become the norm, with 300 and 350 now becoming regular scores. But for us as bowlers, the challenge is to restrict the opposition as much as possible and come up with different tactics to get the job done,” he concluded.
